In the entertainment business in Bangkok these days it is more and more critical that your establishment stand out from the crowd in order to attract a loyal clientele anxious to spend their money with you and to indulge in whatever you have put at their disposal, all in the name of having a good time. And that's not easy these days. Someone already has a club that looks like an alien spaceship that just landed, or a yawning warehouse with a gigantic Neptune outside, and there are all manner of clubs and bars with cool decors, creative menus or celebrity DJs to entice the punters in.
But how about turning the temperature down to minus 10 degrees C and offering the most spectacular array of vodkas known to man, while all the time being entertained by the best all-girl rock and roll band in town. And in a carefully designed club that looks like a club and not a pub, with well-trained, attentive young girls serving the busy room.
All of this and you do not need to search out darkest Ekkamai or head for trendy RCA or Soi Sarasin to indulge. The Club Titanium is only walking distant from a dozen downtown hotels, and a short walk from either the Asoke or Phrom Phong BTS stations, being somewhere in between both at the Sukhumvit end of Soi 22.
It is a new-ish club established in May 2005 and already has a loyal patronage of expats and local Thais and tourists who wander by and step in out of curiosity to see if it is as good as it looks and sounds. It was designed from the ground up as a club with vodka as its theme, and at the bar and in the specially frozen room upstairs you will see more brands of vodka than you ever thought possible. Plus the vodka cave has a range of flavoured vodkas to take your breath away as you adjust to the arctic temperatures which allow you to see your breath and bring you back to the days when you could say things like: “it's so cold it could freeze the balls off a brass monkey”!
But the cold room with its bar made entirely from solid ice is not designed for you to linger and is simply designed to reduce your reality to a temperature where vodka becomes the perfect shot to restore your circulation after a nip or two, whence forth you head back downstairs to get dancing and swinging to the band again. The cold shot is a wonderful contrast to the heat of the night and there is a constant queue of punters heading for the ‘frozen north' and another shot or three of the finest Finlandia vodders.
Manager Andy says vodka is the drink of choice of a generation in the new Europe , so it's no accident that Titanium chose this drink to launch the club.
“We have every known brand of vodka on the planet plus we offer a range of flavoured vodkas to boot, making the club one of the world's premier resources of the non-amber juice!” he grins.
They don't do food, just packaged nibbles but there's a fair bit of room to dance the night away and of course they have the standard range of other beverages too, including beer and other beverages which would not survive too well at 10 degrees below zero.
The main ground floor room is heated nicely by Unicorn, the house band, a collection of pretty young things who really know how to play and can pull down any number of songs from the charts of yesteryear and deliver covers of a very high standard, leaving most male punters gob smacked and spreading the word to anyone who will listen next day about ‘how good these chicks play'. They do soul, R&B, reggae and pure pop and all delivered with style and panache and beautifully lit to create the perfect live music mood. Great sound equipment and reasonable acoustics help the gig and more than a few punters were there just to watch the girls rock on.
This is a great after dinner hang and it is a well-designed and maintained club where you can relax and enjoy live music and a good DJ between and before sets which kick-off around 9 pm.
